Images have fascinated Sharon Brown Christopher since she was a child. The characters and scenes from stories and poems read to her and written for her by her mother danced in her mind’s eye, and the photography hobbies of her father and aunt drew her to her very own Kodak box camera.
Sharon’s life-long vocation has turned on the careful and creative use of parables, similes, and metaphors- that is, mental pictures. As a young adult, her use of a film SLR camera and darkroom equipment complemented her words. Over a decade ago, she picked up her DSLR camera in earnest, and her verbal images morphed into photographic images. Photography for her is a spiritual practice.
Her seeking, searching eye has carried her around the globe and across the United States watching, paying attention, focusing, and seeing with her heart’s eye human suffering as well as the mystery, wonder, and splendor embedded in the human family and all creation. Her commitment to learning continuously sharpens, refines, and inspires her work.
Through her imagination, technological discipline, and camera movement, she invites you to see beyond the human-made fences that divide to the common ground that connects and unites all life in its rich and multi-layered diversity.
