Splendor
Witnessed in Beacon Hill Park, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
I watched this guy for quite a while. He preened and posed in every sort of way. Then in a quick moment, I met him eye to eye. Connection. Splendor.

Rain of Light
Witnessed in Beacon Hill Park in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
In many photographic situations I prefer flat light that comes with cloudy days. I was not disappointed when I walked through the park in an on-again-off-again drizzle. Adding a slight camera movement turned the drizzle into a rain of light.
My attempt to feel, understand, and integrate the news of wasted lives through gun violence and terrorist attacks across our nation and around the world yesterday, this week, and over the past months has evoked this photographic image.

Fear on Fire
Witnessed across the United States and around the world and seen from my hotel room window in Peoria, Illinois.

Lessening of the light
Witnessed in Anacortes, Washington, while waiting for a ferry
“Live in the present,” he says. I try. I practice. Often I do. Yet when the summer solstice comes around, I resist. I grieve the lessening of the light.

Conga Koi
Witnessed in Butchart Gardens, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
First, I saw the geraniums; then the koi. I stood quietly and watched. As if on cue, the koi swan slowly in single file through the water. What a performance!
